City Council
Bakersfield mayor Harvey Hall and the seven members of the city council (one elected from each of the seven wards) are responsible for making by-laws, supervising the city services, and planning Bakersfield's future. Counselors' salaries are paid by your property taxes and elected by you to look after your best interests. As public representatives, you are welcome to contact the council with any concerns you may have, be it the aquarium test kits store in your neighborhood or an idea you have to improve the park. Reach them by phone at 613-326-3767 or email at city_council@bakersfieldcity.us.
Municipal Services
The municipal services that are planned and budgeted by the city council are run by the public works department. They handle the daily running of the city from collecting trash to cleaning up words for walls that have been vandalized. Other public services available in Bakersfield include animal control, building and planning, economic development, communications, roads and highways, traffic planning, recycling, wastewater, and parks and recreation.
