If you are traveling to Bakersfield, you are bound for one of the most unique cities to be found in the state of California. While it is modern in design and cutting edge economically speaking, the city is nothing like what you might expect a city in the state to be. A rich agricultural heritage has influenced the city greatly; you'll find turn of the century Spanish architecture complete with a modern twist in a tankless water heater. The atmosphere means there are a lot of great things to do in Bakersfield; here we have put together a couple of highlights.

If you love horses, you are definitely in the right city. Again, it is pretty surprising that a city as modern as Bakersfield is also so equestrian minded, but that's the truth. There are dozens of horse shows and horse competitions in the city every year; it's kind of the equivalent of the womens hockey tournament up in Canada. National competitions, local, 4H club shows, and rodeos are happening all the time, and they are all worth seeing.

For annual festivals, look also to the cultural makeup of the city of Bakersfield. The yearly Scottish Games and Clan Gathering has been growing in popularity ever since Mel Gibson donned a kilt and made William Wallace a household name. It's a real treat to see men usually engaged in their active exchange traded funds gathering in dresses to throw over sized logs end over end for their clan honor.. People from all over the state, and all over the continent, make plans to attend this festival every year.

Another ethnic event of interest to many is the annual Greek festival hosted by the local Greek Orthodox church. Great food and dancing are guarantees at this colourful event.

Like most American cities, one of the highlights for all Bakersfield residents every year is the county fair. Each summer, the rides, games, and displays go up for two weeks of fun that create memories to last a lifetime. They are a great place to be entertained, and to lean about local businesses such as an auto dealer supply store.

And of course, we can't forget the drag races. Another huge event in the summer time, these legalized races are between classic cars. Don't miss them for the 2012 car sweepstakes which are a big draw for lucky Bakersfield residents.
